Lifestyle Photographer Dana Jonas Burger-Mania!

Are you a Burger fanatic? We’ve got just the trick to get your mouth salivating and your stomach full! The first of many more images to come, is a beautiful man eating an even more beautiful burger. The first challenge was where do you find an EPIC styled burger? You talk to our sought after brilliant Food Photographer David Bell. David Bell immediately suggested food stylist Erika Macias in Seattle for this project! The next challenge is a model who can provide a personality and deliver during a photo shoot! After a day long cattle call in Seattle, we found the perfect match for this concept.  Lifestyle Photographer Dana Jonas really wanted the subject and model to carry the photo versus creating intense lighting. As you can see Dana chose to shoot with a wide angle lens forcing the perspective to create that larger then life look! The production crew pulled the wardrobe and props together — What a fun project! Read on to find a hint on Dana’s next image for this series of impeccably attractive people gorging on America’s favorite food:

This shoot was a blast! Erika’s burger was EPIC, and the model said it even tasted good 🙂 For the lighting I was going for a restaurant kind of feel. That typical sort of overhead warm light. So we built the set in studio and took a stab at it. Stay tuned for a sister image to this one. All I’m gonna say is: root beer float, girl next door, picnic and pearls!

Check out Dana and Erika’s burger masterpiece. You know you’re hungry!

Get Your High Beams On!

With the sudden increase in temperature we thought it was time to showcase Chris Eltrich’s HOT take on our favorite summer accessory: Sunglasses! With all the fun styles and frames, it was hard for Chris to decide what he wanted to feature. After much thinking he decided it was the wayfarer that needed to be in the spotlight. Read on to see why Chris specifically chose these classic glasses:

I really like shoes, clothes and accessories. For this specific shoot, I knew I wanted to focus on sunglasses. Sunglasses are a tried and true accessory that almost everybody has and loves. I decided to capture the classic wayfarer style and was completely in love with these fun colors. Since I was drawn to the color of the frames I wanted to make sure that part of them stood out. I accented the color through the lighting and positioning.

These fun pops of color add the summer twist we can’t resist!

Inside Look: Matt Jebbia's Daydreamin' Material

In these last weeks of summer, we were feeling the warmth and beauty of these carefree days that face us every year. With the feeling of endless amounts of free time to daydream and think about the possibilities that lie ahead, we wanted to share with you what inspires one of our in house photographers, Matt Jebbia. Read below to see how he spends his brainstorming time and maybe you can find your own inspiration:

What inspires me is the use of light. Light has the ability to shape an object or subjects mood, presence, and form to convey a story.  Light can be either natural or artificial, in school I learned to use light in the standard photographic ways.  But what I love, is that you can break all the conventional rules of light to create even more dramatic and beautiful images.
The photographers that inspire me the most with their unconventional use of light are: Shuakashi (http://www.shuakashi.com/), who often paints with light to create streaks and patterns that blow my mind, Melissa Rodwell, Jill Greenberg, and most of all my all time favorite Irving Penn.  I love fashion and beauty as a subject, so nonetheless, these photographers who specialize in this area are of particular inspiration.  The way they capture light, and movement, and even the perception of movement in their subjects…That’s what is so inspiring to me.

Henry Ngan: Deep Under the Earth!

Sometimes you can find inspiration in your backyard, other times you find inspiration in the third deepest train station in the world! Photographer Henry Ngan recently found himself in the super cool Robertson Tunnel, a local engineering gem that passes through the west hills of Portland, filled with basalt up to 16 million years old. Whoa!
Lets hear what Henry had to say about his adventure in the deep:

The Robertson Tunnel is truly a great achievement of Industrial Design and the technology required to create this tunnel inspires me. The designers created a people friendly space in an unlikely place and capturing the human element within it was what I aimed for. Feeling the rush of the wind, people reacting to the mystery of the emerging train  — preserving this moment was my intention.

A Splash of Fun!

The perfect summer refresher: San Pellegrino and Sanbitter, combined, create a thirst quenching Italian soda. This particular photoshoot, shot by David Bell, was inspired by backyard bashes and long bright days. Imagine sipping these delights while playing badminton, barbecuing, hanging by the pool, or simply catching up with old friends. Check out the whole story by viewing the images below:

Road trippin' with Sperrys!

Photographer Dana Jonas is taking full advantage of this amazing summer weather we are finally getting in Seattle! From our studio in Queen Anne over to North Bend, up to Snoqualmie, through Fall City and circling back over at Carnation, it was truly a full day’s road trip!

The most challenging and adventurous part of this shoot was finding the EPIC yellow VW bus. After many phone calls and emails, someone suggested an upcoming VW show. So I took a drive to Renton and found Jason, the owner of my dream bus. After a break-down and few reschedules, we finally got this beast in front of my camera, and with the help of Jeff, Billy, and the ever-sexy Sperrys, made her look fabulous!!

Studio 3 Films Video Production Case Study The Business Overview

As media shifts to the internet, today’s consumer is spending more time in a virtual world, where it’s all about images and video content. So when somebody wants to learn about your business, they go through social media channels and click “Play”. Video is the best way to showcase who you are, what you do and how you do it. It’s the new mission statement.

When Jude Kirstein, owner and founder of Sugar Wheel Works, came to us with the desire to reach out to her client base in a new way we knew that creating a business overview through video was the perfect solution. We met with Jude and saw her studio space, outlined some ideas on paper and really tried to find a way to connect her personality with her business and her client community at large. Studio 3 Films brings you our latest Video Production and some insight from Video Director, David King, on the process of creating this dynamic project:

Our first step in putting together the video for Sugar Wheel Works was to find out from Jude what she wanted to accomplish by having a video. Two weeks before shooting, we sat down with her at her studio and got to know her. Sure we wanted to know what she did and what made Sugar Wheel Works stand out from the competition, but more importantly we wanted to know what her business meant to her and what story she had to tell. A simple video showing the inside of her shop and explaining the nuts and bolts of wheel building is a commodity; we wanted to help her tell her story so that her customers could get to know the woman behind the wheels.
We brought cinematographer Andy Maser to the project who in turn, brought a ton of action cinematography experience along with his RED Scarlet camera and 12′ jib arm. Hanging the RED out the back of the studio van on the jib got us some great shots of Jude riding and brought a unique style to the video that could not have been achieved with a basic camera rig. We shot the majority of the footage in one day with another day of pick-up shots once editing had begun.

Working alongside Jude, we created a 2.5 minute video and a quick 30 second teaser to get the story of Sugar Wheel Works out to the world. We wanted to show potential customers what to expect when they walk into the shop, give them a feel for meeting with Jude, as well as a little cycling eye candy. Check out the full video above!

Star Spangled JELL-O!

It’s that time of year again, backyard barbecues, fireworks, family get-togethers, and sweet summer treats. Living in the Northwest, July is the official kick off of warm weather and neighborhood potlucks; which inspired photographer David Bell to give an homage to the jiggly, colorful, childhood favorite, JELL-O! Read below for David’s thoughts on Jell-O:

Fun. Funny. Love It. Hate It.
An American Classic,
Perfect for the 4th of July

From all of us at Studio 3, have a Happy 4th of July!
