Behind the Scenes

Portrait Photography of the Seattle Mist!

Posted on January 10, 2012

DList has commissioned Dana Jonas and Studio 3 to do editorial, fashion, and portrait photography. It is always great fun working with the lifestyle brand that represents a lavish, VIP lifestyle that includes dress, dine, drink, & dance. DList has some of the premiere events in the Northwest, including parties at local nightclubs, cover model searches, award shows, and an exclusive gold membership. It tends to be a great read full of must sees and highlights of favorite spots around Seattle.

In our recent shoot with the magazine we had the pleasure of shooting for the Seattle Mist, Seattle’s very own lingerie football league. These girls are serious athletes, practicing often and having more wins than losses. The LFL has gained popularity throughout Seattle as well of the rest of the country, with a huge tournament in Las Vegas, drawing hundreds of fans who root on the sport.  Shooting portrait photography of these girls was beyond fun. In Dana’s words, “we had sooooooooo much fun on this shoot with Seattle Mist for the cover and inside spread of DList’s January Issue. The girls had tons of personality, making it easy to tell they are truly an inspiring team of people”.  It was great having the whole team in studio and seeing the passion these girls have for the game. They also happened to make great models and perhaps we’ll have the opportunity to work with them on future projects.

We hope you’ll grab an issue when you see it on the stands to check out our portrait photography on the cover as well as learn about the girls of Seattle Mist! 🙂

Fashion Stylist & Editor: Jenascia Chakos

Posted on January 10, 2012

Jenascia Chakos rocks our socks off and we want you to know why! From the very first issue of DList she has been an avid fan and follower. Lucky for us she’s been a  fashion stylist, producer, and editor for three years at the magazine. We have had the joy of working with this fantastic gal for a little under six months and let’s just say it’s always a blast.

Jenascia consistently tries to outdo herself, making sure every issue she releases turns more than a few heads. Her energetic personality is always appreciated on set and her eye for fashion styling helps make DList’s spreads go from good to uniquely great. You can find her on set chugging a red bull or wearing her infamous fanny pack (which we absolutely love!), full of all of her favorite tools. Let’s just say, she’s always prepared! This wonderful fashion stylist is full of tricks that makes us wish she was our secret weapon on all fashion shoots Studio 3 produces.

In this busy lady’s downtime she finds ways to create recycled fashion and enjoy her adorable little son. You may also see Jenascia modeling for a few local photographers and if you are into reality TV, you may recognize her from America’s Next Top Model Season 2. She also has a way with words and won just under $50,000 on Wheel of Fortune. It’s safe to say Jenascia is anything but ordinary.

Check out Jenascia’s amazing fashion styling skills in action, from the awesome images below shot by our own photographer Dana Jonas and watching the DList video:  Paint The Town

Lifestyle Photo Story: Caffe Vita!

Posted on December 29, 2011

Caffe Vita’s luscious beverages offer a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of our daily lifestyle. We are nothing short of coffee addicts here in the Seattle studio, so you can find us traveling the few short blocks more then a few times a day. Long, difficult, but fun photography shoots can lead us to crave caffeine as well as a smiling face. Lucky for us, Caffe Vita not only has our favorite coffee beans, but also houses our favorite baristas. Each and every day they serve up our cup a joe with nothing short of a smile on their face, happy to accommodate our sometimes outrageous requests. These outrageous requests can include double cupped coffees, non fat this and that, whip, but not too much whip, the list goes on and on. In a city like Seattle, it can often be hard to find a place where everybody knows your name, Caffe Vita is the exception. They make sure each and every cup of coffee is catered not only to you, but to the lifestyle experience of a die hard Northwest coffee drinker. In order to honor our favorite coffeehouse we decided to capture some photos of the coffeehouse lifestyle. Check out the photo story of our last trip below. Do you think the camera adds 10 beans?

White Christmas!

Posted on December 23, 2011

It’s that time of year again. Chilly weather, goofy sweaters, stockings, snowmen, reds and greens, oh and presents! Heck yes we love Christmas time…who doesn’t? Here at our lovely Seattle location, the Studio 3 team’s been getting our dose of all things Christmas, decorating, shopping, loving each other, and all that jazz. There is one thing we’re missing a bit of though and it’s one of the key ingredients to a classic white Christmas (hint: it’s the white part).

Here in Seattle, a fluffy blanket of snow makes for a real love/hate relationship. We LOVE to play in it, turn it into cute snowmen, throw balls of it at our dearest friends, and catch it on our tongues (missing school because of is also pretty great). We HATE walking through it, getting it in our socks, when it turns to slush, and most of all driving through it. We don’t see each other much, snow, and us Seattlites and the Studio 3 team was feeling the need for some snowfall around the workplace. So what’d we do? We made it snow, of course!

One of the perks of being a photo studio is having props galore at our fingertips, so our holiday parties, aside from being super fun and wild, are always beautifully decorated. Check us out below in our new photo from this year’s party. We pulled out our favorite Christmas props and got warm and cozy under the studio snowfall. Some things of importance to note and think about: Chris’ tiny cup and huge mullet, the mystery of what Alex is afraid of, and our little plant friend that came to hang out for the photo.

We had a blast and can’t wait for all the family and friends time coming up in the next few days. And of course, we can’t wait to get through that wrapping paper to all those tempting new toys. Here’s to hoping you have as great a Christmas season! Happy Holidays from Studio 3!

Photo Competition Winner: Robert Welch!

Posted on December 22, 2011

We asked and you all came through! Our first ever Studio 3 photo competition brought us tons of awesome, interesting, funny, and crazy photos from some awesome artists. Thanks so much to our creative community and friends for participating! It was so hard to find our favorite among so much great work, but we’ve finally reached our decision!Everyone at home, use those fingers as drumsticks and give us a drum roll please. And the winner is…

Robert Welch!! Congratulations Robert on winning the inaugural Studio 3 photo competition in the FREESTYLE theme! As a freelance photographer from Renton, WA Robert enjoys shooting human emotion and energy. “Crazy Train” had us from the get go with its vivid colors, psychedelic swirls, and wacky subject. Robert captured the base photo for this amazing image in broad daylight while he was at a block party. Then, he used the smudge tool in Photoshop to produce “the somewhat metallic looking super tube to hell”.We really enjoyed that more than just taking a cool photo, Robert thought to alter reality in his image, using his original photo to create a wormhole of movement. I think I speak for everyone at the studio when I say I don’t know whether I want to run from this crazy looking, smoking clown or hang out with him!Robert’s long-term dream is to own and operate his own portrait studio and to venture into the wilderness to capture fine art landscape. We think Robert rocks and we are looking forward to seeing more of his work in future competitions. Check him out at www.illuminatedphotographe.com.

We’re so happy and thankful to have had all those who submitted work as part of this first competition! It was great to see what the creative community out there is working on and inspiring to see you all striving to reach your goals!Check back for more competitions soon, we can’t wait to have another!

Tricia Eastman: Photo Stylist and MUA Amaaaazingness!

Posted on December 16, 2011

There are many contributors, or as the industry refers to them, photo stylists, that help to create the perfect image! Everything from on set animal handlers, to product specialists, we all work together for one common creative interest. One of our most favorite type of photo stylists is the hair and make up stylist. Not only do they help our models look great, but every once & awhile they will even help the Studio 3 staff when it comes to portfolio building tests, or if a staffer needs a quick makeover. 🙂 No one does this better then Tricia Eastman. Not only does she do exceptional hair & make up, she has also been known to stand in front of the camera as a beautiful model. In short…Tricia Eastman rocks our socks off and we want everyone to know! Tricia is a highly skilled, make-up artist and photo stylist, she has worked on many projects with the studio, especially with photographer Dana Jonas. Dana loves the fact that Tricia not only knows how to make people look great, but she is also extremely friendly and a blast to work with! Her eye for detail helps with the Studio 3 mission of creating amazing, high quality imagery. She is quoted by our photographers as “being a hawk on-set”, leaving no detail unnoticed. In short, she gets along with the Studio 3 family as if she were a long lost relative that we had all been searching for. We can’t wait for our next shoot with photo stylist Tricia Eastman. She’s nothing short of a joy to work and her energy is something we can all aspire too!

Habitat for Humanity: Volunteer Fun!

Posted on December 9, 2011

Studio 3 recently spent some time at the Habitat for Humanity Store here in Seattle! We had such a blast getting our hands dirty and helping out around the store. While we love being busy working around the studio, every three months our little family likes to give back to our community and the Habitat Store sounded like a great place to be.Taking a day to volunteer and give back to this awesome community effort and meeting all the other awesome employees and volunteers was a great experience and change of pace!Check out some pictures below!

Habitat for Humanity is an international, community based low-income housing developer, striving to provide affordable, quality housing for low-income families.Using primarily volunteer labor, with over 1 million people volunteering each year, Habitat builds houses and sells them at cost, with no profit and no interest. In Seattle and King County alone, the organization has built, renovated, or repaired over 340 homes!

The Habitat Store, with locations in Seattle and Bellvue, is open to the public and sells new and gently used building materials, appliances, and furniture at discount prices.Like Habitat’s building initiative, the stores are always looking for new volunteers to help out in a variety of positions, so Studio 3 was more than happy to be their newest and can’t wait to visit them again soon! All smiles all day, by the end of our shifts we were a bunch of store pros rocking our fancy, official blue vests (see last photo for an overload of group cuteness).

If you’d like to help out with such an awesome cause by volunteering as well, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County offers a number of different areas to work in.To find out more about the opportunity to volunteer, follow the link below!
